🍶 Explore Japan’s Sake Culture at SAKE story, Gotanda, Tokyo
SAKE story is a premium Japanese sake bar & izakaya in Gotanda, Shinagawa, Tokyo — 4 minutes walk from JR Gotanda Station. Our owner Motoki Hashino, Grand Prix winner of the first Mr. SAKE Contest, brings 20+ years of sake expertise to every glass.
Motoki’s journey began as a young actor in his teens, then transformed into a decade of adventure as a food & travel writer — backpacking across Southeast Asia, Europe, and beyond, tasting local food and drink in every corner of the world. Those years on the road gave him a deep appreciation for how much culture lives in a single glass. After returning to Japan and running his family’s restaurant, he finally opened SAKE story in his 40s to share that same spirit of discovery — this time through Japan’s extraordinary sake culture.
To all the wonderful people he met during his travels around the world: you are always welcome here. SAKE story is a place where curious visitors, travelers, and sake newcomers are embraced with open arms. No Japanese required — just a love of good food, good drink, and good conversation. 🌍
Oh, and one more thing: Motoki is a devoted cat lover 🐱 — you might just spot a cat or two in the shop’s artwork and decor.
